The new RC429 is a North Yorkshire-bred down country steel hardtail. It's the rowdy sibling to our RC529 harcore hardtail. Designed to redefine what's possible within the short travel hardtail genre.
Hitting a sweet spot for general trail riding or bike-packing this is the ultimate do-it-all bike you've been looking for, it's roots are hardtail and your life-long partner for travelling far and wide.
The sport of offroad riding continually progressess and our bikes evolve accordingly. Whether or not you want to take the easy way or the hard way the RC429 is designed to meet these modern demands. Although you could put frame, handlebar and saddle bags on any kind of bike, the RC429 is purpose built and we've incorporated design elements that make that whole bikepacking experience much better.
Aswell as allowing you to reignite your spirit for adventure the RC429 is also designed to fuel a fast-paced XC power hour, ride through any landscape of your choice or tuck in on the drop bars on a gravel fireroad, this is a bike that's ready to rise to any occasion and get you away from it all.

MATERIAL SPECIFICATION
Steel Is Real
"853 steel is Reynolds’ premium grade of ferrous steel. Renowned for producing light, stiff, yet supple frames, 853 is the frame builder’s choice when only the best will do.
Available in a range of lengths up to 850mm, diameters up to 44.2mm and a wide range of butt profiles 853 finds a home in the rowdiest of mountain bikes and the most responsive of road and gravel bikes.
853 is an air-hardening steel. The benefits of this are particularly noticeable in the weld area, where, unlike conventional steel alloys, strength can actually increase after cooling in air immediately after welding. 853 is heat-treated to give high strength and damage resistance, and the steel properties allow thin walls to be used so that lower-weight but fatigue-resistant structures can be made.
Why Reynolds 853 steel works:
UTS: 1250-1400 MPa, density 7.78 gm/ccThe chemistry includes carbon, manganese, chrome, molybdenum, silicon, and copper.
The interaction between the alloys results in a fine grain structure that forms with air-cooling without the traditional “quenching” (fast cooling in water or oil) process. High strength from bainitic phase steel after a series of cold-working operations.
Additionally, heat treatment to the 853 specification raises the yield strength for the entire tube, increasing dent and impact resistance.
Reynolds has two specific variations in 853 steel:a) ProTeam: the thinnest wall tubes made for road bikesb) DZB: for Double Zone butted tubes, which are particularly suitable for ATB and 29er frames.
This helps reduce or eliminate the gussets normally required to pass the stringent EN fatigue testing standards."
FINISH / COLOURS
Colours - Moss Grey, Sid Blue and Rioja Red. Black decals, all under a clear gloss lacquer. (Ral: 7003, 5010, 3003)
Anti-Corrosion protection applied before going to paint.
Decals are applied to the highest quality under a hard wearing clear lacquer.

Squeezing every ounce of performance out of a short travel trail bike was our brief- no compromises on spec’, speed and stability and certainly no shortage of attitude and fun. Combining low and slack geometry with short travel is a revelation and breaks down the boundaries between what’s expected from a short travel bike and what actually can be achieved.

EXTREME GRAVEL

When the gravel runs out and the tech begins the RC429 comes into its own…not a gravel bike but a specialist off-road/travel/bikepacking tool that’s as happy cranking in the miles as it is flicking through the singletrack. Through careful design the cockpit on this dropbar rig mimics that of a modern gravel bike but underneath you the geometry stretches and slackens making it far more capable and confidence inspiring.
With its GRX transmission paired to custom made Hope wheels and crank the 429 ups the speed and stability whether in carbon rigid or short travel MTB suspension spec’.

However, just about everything with your build can be customised to help personalise your RC429. From choosing your own custom fork options to different hub colours - We want to make sure your bike is suited to exactly what you love, if you've got some of your favourite wheels hanging up in your shed, or the comfiest saddle you've ever sat on - send us them to fit.
